so a few of my other friends who are blind from university were complaining about their disability services and not doing what it is suppose to be doing.
I'm wondering how many of you had to deal with not so accomidating disabilities services at your university and what you did to insure you got what you needed.
Mine was great. I became comissioner and was given money to spend, so I had all the latest tech people come to visit all the time. We worked at student, teacher relations, and with some meetings and logic, and of course when need be, that big legal stick, made it a great place to attend. Guess it depends on the college.
I found that if I was clear about what help I needed, my university's disability services were willing to help, and if they couldn't they would tell me directly.
Yeah, agree with the above. Generally the big difference I found between school and college was that in college it was really up to me to tell the service what I needed, and I had to be clear and concise about it; having said that, though, they are also really good at advocating for me if lecturers are being stupid about stuff like providing slides etc. I think it really depends on the college, but I feel really strongly that if a disability officer/service in general doesn't know what they're doing, then get them out of there and don't take substandard service provision from them!
well, I go to a private school so yeah, a bit and they sort of think I am ignorant too, just little things here and there.
The disabled office at my college is run by Vogons.
